The Lime Green Chair

By Mary Damiano

My home décor finds don’t only come from yard sales.  I was driving through my mom’s neighborhood in Hollywood one Saturday afternoon when I saw this chair on the side of the road.  Someone had put it out for garbage pickup, but I saw potential and put it in my backseat.  In a perfect illustration of one person’s trash being another person’s treasure, I cleaned it up and gave it a much-needed punch of color with lime green spray paint. Because home decorating fabric is expensive, I bought an indoor/outdoor fabric tablecloth on clearance from Marshall’s and batting from Jo-Ann’s to recover the cushions.  I had never reupholstered anything before this chair, but with a Google search and my handy staple gun, it was easy. I reattached the cushions and voila!!!  An adorable chair taken from yawn to yay that has found a home in my bedroom!!!  Coda: Two years after I gave this chair its makeover, I found its twin at a yard sale for $5. Once I redo that one, I’ll have a matched set!!!
